Española Valley Fiber Arts Center

Española Valley Fiber Arts Center Review

The region is known for its longstanding weaving traditions, and one place you can learn about this heritage is the Española Valley Fiber Arts Center, a nonprofit, teaching facility set inside an adobe building in the city's historic section. Here you can watch local weavers working with traditional materials and looms and admire (and purchase) their works in a small gallery. There are also classes offered on spinning, weaving, and knitting, which are open to the public and range from one day to several weeks. Emphasis here is placed on the styles of weaving that have been practiced here in the northern Rio Grande Valley since the Spaniards brought sheep and treadle looms here in the late 16th century. The center also celebrates the ancient traditions of New Mexico's Navajo and Pueblo weavers.
