By Train in Santa Fe

By Train

Amtrak's Southwest Chief stops in Lamy, a short drive south of Santa Fe, on its route from Chicago to Los Angeles via Kansas City; other New Mexico stops include Raton, Las Vegas, Albuquerque, and Gallup daily. In summer 2006, the City of Albuquerque launched the state's first-ever commuter train line, the New Mexico Rail Runner Express. As of this writing, service is from Bernalillo south through the city of Albuquerque, continuing south through Los Lunas to the suburb of Belén, covering a distance of about 50 mi. The second and final phase of the project, expected to be completed by late 2008, will extend the service north to Santa Fe.
