Rough-hewn travertine punctuated by Regency-style furnishings, potted palms, and burnished gold sconces lines an understated lobby -- the better to cloak heads of state and other VIP guests in modesty. The modern guest rooms have taupe-color silk wallpaper, velvet throw pillows, and polished Honduran mahogany, but the smallish bathrooms with their marble countertops are unspectacular. Goose-down duvets and ergonomic leather desk chairs reinforce the pleasingly modern feel. Feinstein's at the Regency hosts some of the hottest (and priciest) cabaret acts in town, and 540 Park has become a destination in its own right among restaurant-savvy locals.
