The General Greene

The General Greene Review

Hearty, locally sourced fare seems to keep the crowds happy these days no matter where you are, but this neighborhood darling outdoes much of the competition. The menu changes with the season but here's a sampling of what you might find: buttermilk biscuits or seven-spice onion rings, a very memorable (and crispy) fried chicken, whole trout, or short-rib stroganoff with organic rigatoni. Vegetable sides like steamed red kale or Brussels sprouts with bacon and mushrooms are just the other side of virtuous. Waiting for a table is part of the experience, especially at brunch on weekends, as are the cocktails and the famous salted-caramel sundae.
