The Pierre, once the jewel in the crown of the Four Seasons group, is now part of an Indian luxury chain called Taj. The Pierre's landmark building owes a lot to the Palace of Versailles, with chandeliers, murals, and Corinthian columns in the Rotunda lounge. Chintz and dark wood adorn the grand and traditional guest rooms, whose gleaming black-and-white art deco bathrooms are spacious for New York. Although still a quintessential old New York place to stay, mutterings of rooms that need updating and more modern amenities make the exorbitant prices hard to justify.
