The Lodge on Lake Lure Review
Originally built in the 1930s as a retreat for the North Carolina Highway Patrol, this lodge is a place to slow down to under 55 mph and enjoy life at the lakeside. All but three of the inn's 17 refurbished rooms have lake views, and the others have views of the well-tended gardens, with azaleas, rhododendrons, and other flowers and shrubs. The "gathering room" in the main lodge has soaring ceilings, with chestnut paneling, and a rock fireplace whose centerpiece is a huge millstone. Rooms are nicely furnished with antiques. Rates include a full breakfast, afternoon tea and pastries, and evening hors d'oeuvres and wine. (Dinner currently offered on Friday and Saturday.)
