Old City
Planning Your Time
If possible, set aside four or five hours on a Sunday for your visit to Old City. You could attend the 9 am service at Christ Church, as George and Martha Washington did, and then join the 10:30 Quaker meeting at the Arch Street Friends Meeting House, where William Penn worshipped. Try to avoid scheduling a Monday visit from November through February, when two of the top sights—the Betsy Ross House and Elfreth's Alley—are closed. If you detour to the Poe House, allow another two hours.
