Newport Jazz Festival

Newport Jazz Festival Review

The grandfather of all jazz festivals, founded by George Wein in 1954, takes place the first weekend in August at Fort Adams State Park and features both jazz veterans and up-and-coming artists. Newport Jazz Festival performers in recent years have included Esperanza Spalding, Wynton Marsalis, Dianne Reeves, The Bad Plus with Bill Frisell, Dr. John, and Maria Schneider Orchestra. The festival is held rain or shine with open-air lawn seating.
