South County: Places to Explore

Wickford

The Colonial village of Wickford has a little harbor, dozens of 18th- and 19th-century homes, several antiques shops, and boutiques selling locally made jewelry and crafts, home accents and gifts, and clothing. This bayside spot is the kind of almost-too-perfect salty New England period piece that is usually conjured up only in books and movies. It is rumored that Wickford was John Updike's model for the New England of his novel The Witches of Eastwick.
