A grouping of barrier islands and salt marshes, this 60,000-acre refuge is one of the most outstanding in the country. The Sewee Visitor & Environmental Education Center has information and exhibits on the refuge, trails, and rescued or breeding live birds of prey and red wolves. From Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge you can take a $30 ferry ride to Bull Island. The island is a nearly untouched wilderness; the beach here, strewn with bleached driftwood, is nicknamed Boneyard Beach.
