Smoky Mountain Field School

Smoky Mountain Field School Review

The University of Tennessee's Smoky Mountain Field School offers non-credit workshops, hikes, and outdoor adventures for adults and families. More than a dozen programs are presented, mostly in the fall, including ones on orienteering (using a map and compass to get from one place to another), mushrooms, nature photography, and edible plants. Classes are held at various locations within the park. Field School programs are generally held on weekends and last from four hours to two days. Fees vary, with most programs $49; overnight guided hikes to LeConte Lodge are $175.
