Carrington's Bluff

Fodor's Review:

Pine-covered arbors, a gazebo, and a tree-shaded, gently sloping lawn frame this B&B in a two-story, five-room 1877 dairy farm and adjoining 1920 three-room "Writers' Cottage" on a quiet residential street seven blocks from UT. Phoebe Williams is a genial hostess who works to accommodate specific needs. The cottage is filled with well-chosen period antiques; the only anachronisms are bedside clock radios and cable TVs. Pros: One of the most charming and personality-filled historic B&Bs in Austin, close to UT and a mile from downtown, convenient to bus routes. Cons: No pool, spa, or other luxury-hotel gewgaws; a bit hard to find, especially at night.
