  Nothing like it

  There is no resort golf course like this in Texas, nothing even close. I wouldn't say it's the best course in Texas – but it’s a special experience.
  
  Not to be confused with the old course that was out there, but the new Lanny Wadkins design is in a different location and it's spectacular. There are elevated tees, where you can see 40 or 50 miles in almost every direction. The mountains, buttes, mesas and other rock formations are breathtaking. The tee shots are exhilarating, and Wadkins created a golf course where every hole is memorable.
  
  Add to that the history behind this place (Lajitas was once a cavalry post), the excellent restaurant and saloons, the old west town setup, comfortable accommodations and a host of other activities here – including trap shooting, hunting, horseback riding and rafting down the Rio Grande – and you’ve got one heck of an escape.
  
  The 7,400-yard course was named for General John Black Jack Pershing, who supposedly chased Pancho Villa around in these parts.
  
  This place is remote, however. My next trip here will probably involve a commercial flight to Midland and four-hour drive south – or even a nine-hour drive from Houston – but it would be well worth it.

  Lajitas Resort Review

  I tried to make a reservation for this place in June....I never received a confirmation and had read on the internet about the nightmares others had when they arrived and there rooms were given to others already so i politely asked for a confirmation to be sent by e-mail. I was asked for and provided my credit card number over the phone, i was told i would receive a confirmation in a few minutes. A week later I e-mailed to say i had not received my confirmation. After no response i then phoned...long distance from Europe, and was told it would be resent...a week after that i called, and e-mailed to cancel my reservation and made a reservation elsewhere, i wasn't about to drive 2 days and wind up with no place to sleep. I received a letter of apology and then in October they billed my credit card for all 3 nights....i was never there and never had a confirmed reservation. I have written 5 times and still no refund. I am now pursuing the refund thru my credit card company These people are common crooks who belong in jail.

  It's really a ghost town now!

  We had reserved a room for 3 nights on a weekend in Oct. 2008 (fall is supposedly their busiest season) and arrived to find the golf course was CLOSED, the spa was CLOSED, the fine dining restaurant was CLOSED, and most of the shops were CLOSED. Although just a few rooms were occupied, we still had to wait 2 hours past check-in time for our room to be ready. When we came back from dinner at the casual restaurant, we found a whole ring of room keys hanging from the lock on our door! If you want to stay there, you better go NOW...at this rate, it can't stay open much longer.
