Canyon of the Eagles Lodge Review

While driving the winding road to this hilltop lodge, it's easy to believe you've taken a wrong turn. But after a few glimpses of sparkling Lake Buchanan, you dead-end right into this state-managed nature preserve and its low-frills guest lodge. This is a great spot for bird-watchers, as you'll have a good shot of seeing the endangered black-capped vereo and golden-cheeked warbler, as well as the glorious bald eagles that nest here from fall to early spring. Most cabins offer spectacular views of the lake and come equipped with comfortable queen beds and full bathrooms. (Plans to update some of the guest accommodations were underway at press time.) Nature-focused children's programs are offered during summer and spring break.

Canyon of the Eagles Lodge Review

Good luck with this place. If you do take a chance on Canyon of the Eagles, I hope that you don't need to make any changes due to family illness, as they are 100% inflexible. They don't have a general manager (not surprisingly) or customer service. If you're thinking about staying somewhere in the Texas hill country, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere...

I'm thinking of a trip to Houston from Dallas Thursday 7/4 to Saturday 7/6. Ideally I'd like to visit the Galleria for a little bit, but my focus will be on the art museum district (Menil, Housto Read more
