Bingham Canyon Copper Mine Review

Depending on your point of view, the Bingham Copper Mine is either a marvel of human engineering or simply a great big eyesore. This enormous open-pit mine measures nearly 2½ mi across and ¾ mi deep—the result of removing 5 billion tons of rock. Since operations began in the early 1900s by the Kennecott Utah Copper company, about 17 million tons of copper have been produced. At the visitor center, exhibits and multimedia presentations explain the history and present-day operation of the mine. Outside, trucks the size of dinosaurs and cranes as tall as apartment buildings continue to reshape the mountain.

    Huge, very interesting

Gigantic open pit mine, which apparently is large enough to be visible from space. Impressive for its sheer size alone as well as the huge digging cranes and trucks that carry ore out. Pleasant little museum and gift shop on site. Need to see this on an organized tour or via car -- no public transportation goes out to it.
