Ruth's Diner Review

There are more than a million new reasons to head back to this historic Emigration Canyon diner. A substantial renovation was completed in 2009 that gussied up the old railcar that serves as Ruth's dining room and the city's best creek-side patio. Breakfast (served until 4) has been the diner's trademark since 1930, and starts with 3-inch-tall biscuits followed by massive omelets like the King of Hearts (artichokes, garlic, mushrooms, and two cheeses). In summer the barbecue fires up every Thursday night for ribs, fish, chicken, or whatever the chef concocts, with live music on the patio. Ruth's is about 3 mi up Emigration Canyon (the same one Brigham Young traversed to found the city) and less than 10 minutes from downtown but feels a million miles away. Watch the road for deer, moose, and some of the top cyclists in America, who train here much of the year. Expect to wait on weekends and many weekday mornings.
