Air Travel: Continental, Delta, JetBlue, United, and US Airways fly into Burlington International Airport. Rutland State Airport has daily service to and from Boston on US Airways Express.

Boat Travel:

Lake Champlain Ferries. This company operates three ferry crossing routes between the lake's Vermont and New York shores: Grand Isle-Plattsburgh, NY; Burlington-Port Kent, NY; and Charlotte-Essex, NY. 802/864-9804. www.ferries.com.

Car Travel: Vermont is divided by a mountainous north-south middle, with a main highway on either side: scenic Route 7 on the western side and Interstate 91 (which begins in New Haven and runs through Hartford, central Massachussets, and along the Connecticut River in Vermont to the Canadian border) on the east. Interstate 89 runs from New Hampshire across central Vermont from White River Junction to Burlington and up to the Canadian border. For current road conditions, call 800/429-7623.

Train Travel:

Amtrak. Amtrak has daytime service linking Washington, D.C., with Brattleboro, Bellows Falls, White River Junction, Montpelier, Waterbury, Essex Junction, and St. Albans via its Vermonter line.
