Charles City Tavern Review
Because this restaurant is the best of only a few places to dine in the area, you may encounter a wait to be seated and served—especially at lunch, when visitors touring the nearby plantations descend. Dinner reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. Housed in a restored farmhouse, the tavern specializes in Southern dishes, especially regional specialties such as crab cakes and bread pudding. Other main dishes include pan-roasted oysters and tavern meat loaf. The tavern (formerly the Indian Fields Tavern) stresses seasonal American regional cuisine. In mild weather, you can eat on the screened porch overlooking gardens. There's brunch on Sunday.
