Broadway Center for the Performing Arts
Broadway Center for the Performing Arts Review
Cultural activity in Tacoma centers on this complex of performance spaces.
The famous theater architect B. Marcus Pritica designed the Pantages, a 1918 Greco-Roman-influenced music hall with classical figures, ornate columns, arches, and reliefs. W.C. Fields, Mae West, Charlie Chaplin, Bob Hope, and Stan Laurel all performed here. The Tacoma Symphony and BalleTacoma perform at the Pantages, which also presents touring shows. 901 Broadway. 253/591-5894. www.broadwaycenter.org.
Theatre on the Square. Adjacent to the Pantages, the contemporary Theatre on the Square presents performances by the Tacoma Opera as well as professional plays and musicals. Broadway, between 10th and 11th Sts., 98402. 253/591-5894.
