Where to Refuel Around Town

Here are some places to consider when you are short on time or cash. A few are chains; most are locally owned. Some have seating, some don't; but all are popular, quick, affordable, and central.

Alki Bakery. This West Seattle coffee shop-bakery-lunch counter has views of Alki Beach and beyond.

Dick's Drive-In. Seattle's classic burger chain has several locations. Only the Queen Anne branch has seating.

El Puerco Lloron. Authentic Mexican food served cafeteria-style on the Pike Place Market Hill Climb.

Ezell's Fried Chicken. There's no seating at this Central Area spot, but a take-out box of fried chicken, rolls, and a couple of sides makes a fine picnic.

Il Fornaio. Both the café and the espresso bar on the first floor of Pacific Place mall have coffee, salads, sandwiches, and seating.

Ivar's Acres of Clams. Clam chowder and fish-and-chips are the specialties at this waterfront landmark next to the Coleman Dock ferry terminal. There's seating indoors and out.

Pagliacci. Counter service only at this pizzeria near the UW. There are some salads on the menu, and plenty of seats.

Salumi. Italian meatball sandwiches, hearty wines, Armandino Batali, and a big shared table -- Enough said?

Uwajimaya Village Food Court. Several stands sell Asian fast foods in the heart of Seattle's International District. Uwajimaya's deli carries Japanese and Chinese dishes, Inay's Kitchen specializes in Filipino cuisine. Aloha Plates serves -- you guessed it -- Hawaiian. The long shared tables are often crowded.
