Skillet Diner

Skillet Diner Review

Diner fare takes a modern turn on Capitol Hill at this stylishly retro, brick-and-mortar version of one of the city's preeminent food trucks. Skillet's hot, strong coffee is made with beans from the local Fonté micro-roastery, while their burgers are ridiculously savory, topped with signature "bacon jam" and blue cheese (max out the decadence with a side of cheesy poutine). A kale Caesar salad and a fried chicken "sammy" sporting a fennel seed crust are other signs you're not in the '50s anymore. Sit on counter stools or in comfy avocado-green booths, but allow plenty of time—while service is cheerful and prompt, lunch-hour waits are lengthy.
