The friendly staff at this 60-year-old hotel takes real pride in the building's past. Rumor has it that many shady political deals were sealed over pints inside the White Rose, an adjoining British pub popular with the after-work crowd. Long, red-carpeted hallways conjure up images of The Shining, and rooms don't look like they've been refurbished since the 1970's. The style is classic indeed: wood parquet floors, old aristocratic artwork, and simple white-tiled bathrooms. At this writing, an international hotel group has just taken over. Plans for renovation are on the table; let's hope they call for modernizing without sacrificing charm.
