This iconic building is home to downtown's brashest hotel: The Esplendor calls upon Argentine icons—Eva Perón, Che Guevara, Jorge Luis Borges, among others—to remind you just where you are; their enormous portraits line the walls of the lobby and art gallery. The rooms are high-ceilinged and large and are decorated in muted grays and whites. Splashes of color are found in the funky throw rugs, meshlike headboards, sparkly pillows, and abstract paintings. This is one of the few downtown hotels that make a bold modernist statement, all the while gazing fondly back at Argentina's storied past.
