  I went to Mongo's because it seemed every guidebook mentions this place as a "must visit." While the groove there was good - it was packed with locals and residents - the service was incredibly slow, even for South America standards. While I can't complain about the food - the steak bites with the mushroom sauce - were delicious, I was duped.
  
  I went with a friend, ordered dinner and a bottle of wine. When the check arrived, the bottle I had thought was 80 bolivianos turned out to be 180 bolivianos. The waiter informed me that I had chosen the 180 boliviano bottle when I knew in fact I had selected the 80 boliviano one. So, he came out to the kitchen and produced the supposed empty bottle I had drank as "proof."
  
  Well this was getting nowhere so I asked to speak with the manager, who was even less sympathetic. When I pulled out my wallet and showed her I only had enough cash to pay for the 80 peso bottle (in most South American cities, you don't travel with more than you need), she demanded my mobile phone as collateral until I returned to the restaurant to pay the balance!
  
  While many readers may be bamboozled by the write ups this place has received, if you do choose to go, just be very careful they don't do the "bait and switch" on you, charging you nearly double the price you expected to pay for a drink.
