Brasilia and the West Sights

Palácio da Alvorada Review

At the tip of a peninsula projecting into Lago Paranoá, the president's official residence was Niemeyer's first project in the new capital. The architect used slanting support columns, here clad in white marble. The 1958 palace is not open to visitors, but you can appreciate the grand view from the reflecting pool next to the gate. To get here, take a cab from Plaza of the Three Powers.
