The ornate Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, though small, is Sabará's main church and an outstanding example of Portuguese baroque architecture combined with elements of Asian art. Its simple exterior gives no indication of the wealth inside, typified by its luxurious gold altar and lavishly decorated ceiling. At this writing the church is undergoing renovations but is still open for public visits. "
