Museu Afro-Brasileiro

Museu Afro-Brasileiro Review

Next to the Catedral Basílica, the Afro-Brazilian Museum has a collection of more than 1,200 pieces relating to the city's religious or spiritual history, including pottery, sculpture, tapestry, weavings, paintings, crafts, carvings, and photographs. There's an interesting display on the meanings of Candomblé deities, with huge carved-wood panels portraying each one. The two other museums that share the building are the Memorial de Medicina (Old School of Medicine Memorial) and the Museu Arqueologia e Etnologia (Archaeology and Ethnology Museum); both are closed for extensive renovation.
