Safety & Precautions

A few simple rules: don't eat fresh oysters sold anywhere but in a restaurant, and make sure the drinks you buy from street vendors are made with commercial ice. (The easiest way to check is to look for a circular hole through the middle.)

Avoid visiting Praia da Foca in the late afternoon and evening. Don't go alone during the day, as there have been muggings on the beach.
