The city is at the confluence of the aquamarine Rio Tapajós and the muddy brown Amazon. Seeing the meeting of the waters is second only to witnessing the pororoca (tidal bore) outside Macapá. It's best viewed from the Praça Mirante do Tapajós, on the hill in the center of town and just a few blocks from the waterfront.
