The South: Places to Explore

Vale dos Vinhedos

The Serra Gaúcha produces 90% of Brazilian wine. Grapevines grow throughout the hilly terrain, but the heart of the winemaking country is within the municipality of Bento Gonçalves, settled by Italian immigrants in the late 19th century. Because the best-known Brazilian wineries are within a few miles in this region, the name Vale dos Vinhedos (Vineyard Valley) has become synonymous with quality wines.
