The main concern you should have in the North is the sun: A hat and sunblock are always a good idea. Use common sense: Don't be flashy with cash or expensive cameras. The North is relatively tranquil, but when venturing out from the center of any town into other neighborhoods, it's always safer to take a cab than to walk (and to ask the place where you are to call one for you).
