Tren del Vino
Tren del Vino Review
One great way to explore the wine region around Santa Cruz is by taking the 1913 steam engine. The train leaves from the nearby town of San Fernando every Saturday morning (transfers are also available from Santiago), and chugs through the scenic Colchagua Valley, home to more than a dozen wineries. As well as making vineyard visits and tasting wine on board, you can also opt to stop for lunch at the Santa Cruz Plaza Hotel, or visit the Colchagua Museum. The trains leave the San Fernando Station at 10 am and take around 90 minutes to reach Santa Cruz. If transferring from Santiago, minibuses leave from the Hotel Galerias at 8 am. You must prebook by phone or online. Due to the February 2010 earthquake, the Tren del Vino is making limited stops at vineyards. Please check the schedule prior to your visit.
