The Lake District: Places to Explore

Lican Ray

In the Mapuche language, Lican Ray means "flower among the stones." This pleasant, unhurried little resort town of 1,688 inhabitants is on Lago Calafquén, the first of a chain of seven lakes that spills over into Argentina. You can rent rowboats and sailboats along the shore, which is also a fine spot to soak up sun. It must be admitted that Lican Ray is not as perfectly manicured as Pucón. With but one paved street, a lot of dust gets kicked up on a dry summer day.
