Abu Simbel vs Alexandria???

Any thought on which to do, if you only had time for one? We will be in Egypt end of Dec/early January and need to make some educated decisions! Thanks!

I assume you are doing the Nile cruise!

DO Abu Simble, if you can only do one .

I haven't been to Egypt and will be travelling there in late 2010. Based on what I've read, Abu Simbel would be the more interesting of these sights. Alexandria is far from Cairo, you need to be prepared for a very long day if doing this as a day trip from Cairo. I think of Alexandria as a port city, I can't imagine the sights here would be as impressive as Abu Simbel. For course, Abu Simbel is far from Cairo, you'll need to fly there from Aswan.

Definately Abu Simbel, although if you have the time I would also say add in Alexandria. Why go all the way to Egypt and not do all it has to offer.

Have a great time!!

Of the three ( Giza, Karnak Temple,Abu Simble) Sound and Light shows...the one at Abu Simble is the best.

If you miss Abu Simbel for any reason, you've missed one of the best things, if not THE highlight of going to Egypt. We didn't stay overnight, so can't comment on the Sound & Light show there, but the S&L show at Karnak Temple is amazing, so pay extra if you have to and go to that one. Same for the one at the Pyramids, which is different, but still wonderful. The tombs at Saqqara are also unbelievable. You need a professional, licensed Egyptologist to get the most out of any visit to anything in Egypt. I vote Abu Simbel too.
