They seem to be awfully quiet -- why aren't the buffs making those mooing noises I always hear them make? Are they quiet after dark to avoid detection by predators?

Are those fireflies beaming about the buffalo?...I did hear some mooing a few minutes ago, but yes they sure are quiet!

I think the insects you are seeing are moths or other things being attracted by the light associated with the camera. They are being lit up by the light, I think.
