Thats why you take a video camera. Amazing footage, that would have been even better with a tripod or some sort of stabilisation.
Just saw Blodd Diamonds on a plane - great film, and Di Caprio was very good.

Wow! YouTube has some amazing videos. Here is one of a lion almost getting a hunter (too bad he missed):

going 2 Africa, you'd be surprised at the people who, after paying top price, will just flake out on a drive. All the better for us!
Blood Diamonds was a terrific film and I wish more people went to see it. Leo was wonderful.

Thanks for posting the link, that was a quick 8 minutes. One comment, lots of chatter in the vehicles, especially at the beginning.
We had a pretty wild (but not that wild) sighting last year at Phinda. I was with some of the CCA oldtimers who have many, many years in the bush. We were watching the northern pride. There were seven lions present, including a mature male who many people consider the most beautiful lion they have seen, two younger males, and four females. One of the younger males had been cornered by buffalo a while before after he had kiled a calf and had been badly mauled. One of the rangers had seen the encounter and thought he was going to be killed but he managed to survive. His back was permanently damaged, and while it didn't seem to bother him it was noticeable as a large lump where his backbone and ribs met. The pride had eaten within the last day and were lying around so we didn't expect much action and were just there to admire "pretty boy". Suddenly someone noticed a large male buffalo coming slowly thru the brush. The lions finally saw him but didn't seem too interest. The oldtimers thought they wouldn't stalk him but if he wandered in they might attack. He kept coming closer (I had my camera but was so interested I didn't think to pull out the video camera) and suddenly it happened. He charged the lions! They flew in all directions except for one young male who acted like nothing was happening. Two of females climbed trees and the big male ran off about 30 m. The buffalo ran off and in the general confusion no one notice where he went. Just as things were calming down someone noticed the buffalo running thru the brush a short disance away. Then he ran ran back the other way and we saw he was chasing a lion. They came by again with the buffalo gaining and then disappeared again. After about five minutes the lion returned to the group, having escaped from the buffalo. He climbed the tree one of the females was in and stayed there for quite a while. It was the young male with the back injury. Apparently the buffalo must have recognized that lion's scent and come for him. The oldtimers said they had never seen a lone buffalo attack 7 lions to say nothing of having won the encounter.

That was bloody amazing. Red in tooth and claw indeed. The Buffalo are really intelligent - and I hope the calf survived his/her ordeal. The poor lions - talk about being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea!
Thnaks for posting the link - no wonder we mortgage our houses to get there!![Imported](https://www.fodors.com/community/images/smilies/imported/wink.gif)
