Hi! We are doing a safari with Intrepid thru some of the lakes in Kenya and Masai Mara. We have a free day at Lake Navaisha and it looks like there are several different excursions or activities we can do from there. Any suggestions? This is our first trip to Africa, and Lake Navaisha will be one of our first stops.

Okay, we have narrowed it down to Hell's Lake and Crescent Island. Are both of these full day trips? Also, I meant to spell Lake Naivasha. Oops.

We very much enjoyed going to Crescent Island and doing a walking tour of the island. We were able to get very close to baby giraffes, thompson's gazelles and other animals. There were very few people on the island and it had a real "jurassic park" kind of feel. Our daughter was impressed that part of one of the Lara Croft movies had been filmed on the island. There is no evidence of the island as "movie set" -- it was just something our guide told us.

Crescent Isl is half-day, so you can use other time to visit at Hell's Gate.

Depending on where you're staying, some may already include these activities in their rates, otherwise, you'll have to determine costs for each.

You can really spend as long or as short at time as you want in either area. I would rent a mountain bike and cycle through Hell's Gate NP during the first part of the day (arrange the rental the evening before if possible) and visit Crescent island in the late afternoon.
