Kenya this August - Mara Explorer or Royal Mara or Porini Lion Camp

Hi guys,

Last minute travel to see the migration in Kenya this August and so far there are availabilities for 5 consecutive nights at Mara Explorer, Royal Mara and Porini Lion Camp. The best rates is from the Royal Mara, almost 50% less than the rest.

Can anyone please give their opinions on the camps listed? I'm tempted by the offer from the Royal Mara but, as far as I have researched, it's outside the main Masai Mara and quite far from any potential crossing points.

Appreciate any help!

Mara Explorer is the ideal location. Of course you have to part with something extra for something good. One secret; rates charged directly by the lodges/camps are far much higher than rates you may be able to get from tour agents/operators

Thank you SimoninKenya. I've noticed that too and will try and work with a local agent there. The Mara Explorer looks good but what's your opinion on the Royal Mara?

Does anybody else have any opinion on the camps that I've mentioned? Or if you guys think that there are better choices of camps please let me know and I'll check and see if they have availabilities.

I'd go for Mara Explorer - by far the best loaction.

Not far away from the crossing points and in prime big cat territory (esp. for leopards)

Thanks DShah. It looks like everyone suggest the Mara Explorer over the other camps on my list. Will try and negotiate the price down.

Cheers,

Just curious: Why not Lion Porini? We're about to go there...Is the location not as good?

Hi back crosscheck and I remember you as well! Good question about the Porini Lion Camp. I'm told on TA that they have the best guides but I want a bit more comfort.
