Movie list to Prepare My Mind for Africa
Snowbound today so I'm gearing up for my late August OAT safari. On my list so far: Imax Movie: The Serengeti, Out of Africa, The Lion King (mostly for the music). Any other ideas?

AFRICAN QUEEN but thats old, Love story.. Humphrey Bogart & Audrey hepburn.
BLOOD DIAMOND, but not relevant to Tz, this is about Sierra Leone, but quite a good one - Leonardo DiCaprio & Solomon Vandy
CONSTANT GARDENER, havent watched this one but the film was set in Kenya
There is a few others but not really relevant to Tz
Enjoy!

I also vote for Out of Africa. As soon as I knew i was taking my first trip to Tanzania (later this year) I watched it again. Great acting, good love story, fabulous footage of Africa. Karen Blixen really loved the country and the people and that comes across in the movie.
African Queen is also a personal favorite (starring Katherine Hepburn, not Audrey, and Bogart). This film, to me, doesn't highlight Africa that much though. It's an adventure story and a love story, but could be set anywhere. It's interesting because it's the only film Hepburn and Bogart made together and they were both older actors at the time. The studios were very reluctant to make the film, thinking there was no chemistry and the odd story would not resonate with audiences. Instead, it's one of the most beloved films these two actors ever made and routinely rates very highly among critics and film buffs. Plus it's finally coming out on DVD in March of this year. Enjoy

One of my favorites is the Ghost & The Darkness. Great photography, and incredible music!
Cool news Catseye about the Atrican Queen, I will look for the DVD in March. (PS are you the lady I met in LA during the GTG in October?)
I liked the Constant Gardener, but I read the book first though, so I think I was a little disapointed in the movie when it came out.
LOVED Out of Africa, and still do every time I watch it!

War Dance is about Uganda but absolutely worth watching:

I loved Nowhere in Africa too.
Boys of Baraka is a documentary about a group of inner-city Baltimore kids sent to Kenya for boarding school.
