Nairobi airport - any updates?
There seems to be no recent updates as to the condition of the Nairobi airport since the fire last year. Does anyone know if they have built any lounges or lounge areas?

Haven't been in the new terminal which is primarily for KQ (Kenya Air) and their code-share partnet carriers, so they might have a lounge. Otherwise, not yet. Check the TA link above which might help.

Yup, there are lounges for each departure gate in the international terminal as of Sept 2014.
Of course, the fans are not great (can't tell if there was A/C or not)and the heinously loud tvs are not conducive to doing anything but sweating...

I was in NBO feb. and my airline Emirates gave me a pass to the new and air conditioned lounge, (don't know the name) you can't miss it... it is for all Biz class pax other than Kenya Air which has their own lounge..It is swiss owned I believe....better than sitting in a hot departure gate for several hours.

@cindy_shyrow- I was there mid-September of 2014. Flying out on Emirates. I only had to be in the lounge/waiting area for 20 minutes as I was browsing through one of the small shops after check in. Just be prepared to take off a lot of layers in there!

Hi there - I recently spent 11 hours in Nairobi Airport (JKIA) en-route from Mauritius to Chad so got to know it pretty well! The new departure gates built after the fire is quite smart and comfortable and you can buy an internet token and use the wi-fi (you can pay in US$s cash and it is pretty reasonable and fast). There are various lounges for business class passenger and there is also a private lounge that you can stay in for up to 3 hours for US$30 (visa card accepted) - it is quiet and comfortable, if a little bright - has wi-fi, soft drinks, beer, wine and savoury snacks as well as tea coffee making facilities, a TV, newspapers and a clean loo (although the toilets in the terminal are also very respectable). Hope that helps, have a good trip

We departed after a two week safari at the end of last week. The set up has changed since I was there last year and KQ has a new lounge - the previous one was invariably standing room only! The general passenger areas have improved - What has really improved is the restaurant area. There is a good Coffee bar, an a la carte and buffet restaurant and a sort of take way Chinese and Indian place.
The shops have gone down hill - I suggested to a fellow traveler that they could get slovenlier T shirts at the airport and they were disappointed
