Pissing on the Masai Mara or WHAT'S REALLY HAPPENING IN THE MARA
Can I say that on Fodors?
Wed 24th March 2010, Wycliffe Muga visits Kenya's most famous National Reserve for wildlife and stumbles across controversies and turf wars.
On a recent visit to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, I was, driving through the reserve in a small 4WD car with the Chief Warden of the Mara Triangle, Samson Lenjirr, when we came upon a tour van that had stopped by the side of the road. read more here ............

WHAT'S REALLY HAPPENING IN THE MARA
The granting of this mobile campsite "allocation" followed a procedure very different from that required to get a proper lease, like the 33-year lease that Hassan Ole Kamwaro has on the Olkeju Ronkai site. For the mobile campsite, all that was required was that the allocation of this campsite be entered in the minutes of the council meetings. And since there was no lease, anyone occupying such a campsite could officially be asked to vacate it literally overnight. More about this controversy here ........

I wonder if I will be the first and last to reply. It's an interesting read but there's a touch of "p*ssing on each other" about the first one, but the second one is very enlightening - the reason for the small camps being targetted is not what I thought if this is to believed.

I agree kimburu, lots of pi**ing going on. This is why I put it up here. It sheds a glimmer of light/understanding on what the controversy in the Mara is about. All based on greed and corruption and the Somak Lodge beeing allowed to be built there.
Never safari with Somak.
I still have not seen anything official about which small lodges are illegal and if they have been told to pack up.

I read this and was overwhelmed by the p*ssing. It was like a fight between tomcats. Thought I might have not properly followed the plot, but it appears I was. Though we can make light of the terminology, the situation is dire and sad. Thank you for the post.
