places to eat at Nairobi airport?
I will have about 6 hours to kill in the Nairobi airport before my flight out at 11pm. are there places to sit & have dinner there?
should i request a day room at a local hotel? but i heard that check out for day room is 6pm, which won't help much either.
any advice would be appreciated. thank you

I've never taken a day room so can't advise about that.
From memory, I think there is a kind of burger-type restaurant at one end of the long corridor that all the shops are on at Nairobi airport and a snack bar near the other end. You should be able to get food, but I don't think I'd call it having dinner!
It is also sometimes difficult to get a seat.

I've had exactly this problem before and I think the best thing to do is go out of the airport, get taken into town by a local operator and have dinner in Nairobi, then return in time for your connection. Nairobi airport is not nice there really is no where to eat and nowhere to even sit, its hot and seething with people. Kennedy who does the cheetah hug is relaible and could sort it out for you. Do an internet search on dining alternatives ... or ask his advice. He'll keep your luggage safe while you eat. BUt be warned you will have to pay a day exit visa to get out of the airport.

There's not much in the way of places to eat at NBO. On one end near gate 14 is a Java House (local coffee house chain) that has some food and another snack bar at the opposite end near gate 4. With 6 hours, I'd opt for leaving the airport. I agree that sometimes it's hard to even find a place to sit.

We stopped off by the the famous Carnivore restaurant before going the the airport. Although it was not my cuppa tea, it does have a great African ambience, superb selection of BBq meats of every concievebale type of african game and a very colourful place. If I remember right it is about about 15 mins from the airport.

You might double-check that, sometimes the charge for a day-room isn't much less than for the full night, so this could still be a workable option.

Norfolk Hotel, Harry Thuku Rd - Delamere Terrace
La Colce Vita, Limuru Rd (Italian)
-Haven't been back to Kenya in 3yrs; don't know if they are all still operating.

Most of the dayroom checkouts are 6pm, but a few are later. You can certainly check out by 6pm, have dinner somewhere and arrange for pick-up at 8pm for transfer to JKIA. As most flights depart in the evening, the terminal is crowded and check-in/security can go quickly or very very slowly. Technically, you have to allow yourself 2/hrs minimum. If arriving at JKIA by 9pm, then the wait isn't all that long.
JKIA doesn't provide for many food choices, but for snacks.

OK a couple more places- there is a restaurant at the airport. It is close to arrivals (do the other side of the road to the depatures, at the top of a tower) It does reasonable priced food. And has a place to sit and have coffee etc.)
I like to be closer to the airport when I'm leaving... so my favourite place to go is the Panari Hotel. There is a cheap food court there, a good Brazilian Restaurant (better meat than Carnivore and a bit cheaper) There is also a coffee shop that does nice food too... and it's on Mombasa Road... on the way to the Airport. You can even catch a film or have an ice skate!
