Great thanks!
I think October it is then.
Say hello to the gorillas for me. We went to the zoo this weekend and saw lowland gorillas who looked like they were completely bored and depressed. Very sad to see them in captivity. I feel guilty supporting the zoo for the obvious reason that I hate having animals living in tiny jail-like environments for man's entertainment but I do want the animals that are born in captivity to be well taken care of -- a very sticky topic probably best not brought up here. We did see a silverback and juvenile male playing and running upright for long distances which was fascinating.

Lol, Lynn, I did not buy Wellington's. I used hiking shoes (not even boots).
Remember, I'm from California!
Kaye, other than the Wellies rumor, I agree with Lynn: if you do plan to bring gifts for kids, please do not hand them out to children directly. It encourages begging, skipping school, chasing after cars with foreigners, etc. All things adult Rwandans want to discourage.
Have a marvelous trip!

Handing some t-shirts to your porters for them or their kids would be a nice idea.
Now I've started a Wellie rumor. It was Femi who bought the Wellingtons, not Leely. Opps!
"Femi on Mar 31, 13 at 5:59pm I bought the rubber wellies that rangers wear."

Hi Leslie
Let me see how close the gorillas get before I say hello, I think if they get too close, remembering to say Hello from Leslie may be the least of my issues!
Hi Leely
No I would not give them directly to children, it was always my intention to give them to rangers, porters etc with us on the walk as an addition to their tips. Thanks I shall have a great trip although I am now wishing I was going a bit later as a very close friend's 21 year old son was killed in a car accident on Monday morning and it will be very hard to leave her to go on holiday especially as I will be gone 5 weeks. Very difficult!
Thanks Lynn, I think so as well especially after finding out how such a simple gift as a new Tshirt can mean to someone who has so little and probably even less that is brand new!
Luckily as far as rumors go, it could have been a lot worse!
Kind regards
Kaye

One more thought. All of the gorillas are amazing! It will be a fabulous experience with any of the families. Do not kill yourself to see a particular family. They will all offer a unique and different experience. You will love the ones that you see and suffering afterwards will not be worth it.

Thanks Patrissimo,
You are right of course, and I am lucky to be seeing them. If given a choice though, I would like to have an idea of which family has babies etc.
Hi Sallie Jo
Our flight into Kigali has changed and we will now arrive in Kigali soon after 5pm so will be looking for you in the bar or asking at reception if we can't find you as soon as we have settled in.
Leave Sunday, so very excited about the trip though not the plane part!
Kind regards

You lucky people! We were in Rwanda last year for 2 gorilla treks on the 15th and 16th of June (FIrst group: Susa with Edward as our guide, 2nd group: Kwitonda with Francois as our guide), stayed at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for 2 nights and the Kigali Serena for 2 nights-coming and going.
A trip of a lifetime and I cannot wait to go back!
You probably already check the gorilladoctors.org site for new babies...
Have a wonderful trip!

Kaye - that is great. I guess it just depends on what family we get that day as to when we will roll into Kigali but I would imagine we would be there by 5pm. I will leave word with the desk when we get it.
