SV, thanks for the link. I have a few more international trips before my December trip to Australia, so I've done very little except purchase my ticket from JFK to Australia, and purchase all my internal tix and tix from Australia to and from New Caledonia and Vanuatu -- I haven't done much research yet so that website will be helpful.

Botswana 2009
March 19-22 Jack's Camp
March 23-25 Nxamaseri
March 26-31 Jack's Camp
October 26-28 Seba
October 29- November 1 Jack's Camp
November 2- November 5 Mapula
November 6- November 9 Duba Plains
November 10-November 11 Meno A Kwena
As you can see, I'm booked for two safaris this year.
I did two last year, and it seems that the more you do
the more you want.
Mapula will be camp 69, over 35 years and 7 countries.
At my age the future can't stretch too far ahead, so I,m
doing what I can while I can. I thank the day when I
first flew up to Mala Mala for a weekend on a business
trip with my husband.
From then on I was hooked and was lucky enough to
keep returning to Africa.

Well, it's not a safari trip, but my daughter and I will be in Tanzania July 18 - August 8th. We'll be doing some volunteer work, but hope to see some wildlife on one of our weekends.
We're actually a bit nervous as it's our first time to East Africa.
We've still got to get all our vaccines and such.
My daughter is afraid it will be "sad" as she'll be working in an orphanage. I think she'll be fine.

I still can't quite believe this has worked out, but I'm one of the lucky ones for 2009, too. We're going to South Africa August 13th-31st, with 3 nights in Madikwe, 1 night in Johannesburg, and then 12 days on an Earthwatch expedition for brown hyena research. Should be an interesting and very different type of trip... I'll post more about it on a separate thread after I've dealt with my long-delayed Uganda/Rwanda 2008 trip report.

We're leaving in late August for Kenya and Uganda. My itinerary hasn't evolved anymore beyond Ithumba and Murchison Falls so I still have some blanks to fill in. I booked Ithumba directly with Sheldrick and will probably get Julius from Eastern & Southern to drive us again. Haven't decided on an operator for Uganda yet but am leaning toward Gorilla Tours. Flights all booked (FF miles so that's the first thing I do). Joyce & Rod are joining us for Kenya and maybe Uganda if we can somehow trick Rod into going to 2 countries Immigration, what immigration? Those falls? That's still part of Kenya
Have a great trip everyone!

PredatorBiologist, Thanks for the reminder about the 4 for 3 day special with Xudum. We are aware of it and are going to try to get squeeze in an extra day somehow if we can switch some things around, but as jweis pointed out, we don't want to take it from Savuti or LV. We're going to ask our travel agent to see what she can help us with. Thanks for the heads up, though!

I almost cannot read this thread: until we pay off the debt from the last trip - due to not following one of the most basic precepts of money management, taking money you will need in the next few years out of the stock market - we won't be going anywhere. And, it's so painful - there are so many decent bargains out there!

I am 48 sleeps away and my itinerary is very simple. Since this is trip #6, I have found I prefer not to bounce around. After one night at Joberg airport hotel because I have to due to late arrival, I start with 6 nights at Thornybush. I have not stayed there before and I might not have chosen it, however friends of my mine, who I have not met face to face, had their son there as a ranger. He has since quit there, but I am still meeting my friends there, so it should be a lot of fun.
I am then doing a car transport for a one night stay at Vuyutela Lodge, Djuma. I am only spending one day there to meet the great folks at Wildearth. They have two to three live daily drives that can be seen at www.wildearth.tv. If you need a safari fix from home, this helps.
I am then doing another car transport to my favorite place, Lion Sands Ivory Lodge where I will be doing another 7 days. I am hoping to get a few days with a private landie so that I have time to work extra hard on my photography.
The countdown is seriously on its way, as this has been 11 months in planning.
