Did you find it varied much (quantity of sharks) with the seasons? Also, is it something that we would want to do two days in a row?

We are really excited about this part of the trip.

Yes, my first trip was in May 2000, and while we saw two sharks from the boat, they didn't stick around long enough for us to get in the cage.

My second trip was August 2002, and we saw lots of sharks, and I got to spend about an hour (total -- in several shifts) in the cage. The cage is tethered to the boat and you use a snorkel, not a tank, notwithstanding what's claimed. For most of the time you watch for sharks while your head sticks out of the water and then submerge when sharks are near (either you'll see them or someone from the boat will yell that there's a shark at the rear).

Its a lot of fun, and I have done it twice, albeit on separate trips, and I'm thinking of a third trip when I go on safari next year. If you like that type of stuff, it can be a lot of fun two days in a row, plus you'll get to overnight in Hermanus and won't need to do the early morning and late evening drive from and to Cape Town, like we did.

paloaltotraveller,

I dont know Brian McFarlane so I cant comment in this regard however what I do know that the person whom I respect most in the shark cage diving game, viz. Chris Fallows, has told me good things about this operator.

There are lots of good tips embedded in thit_cho's mail hoever heres a very important one not mentioned. If you dont have a waterprood housing for your ccamera then do not forget to take a disposable waterproof camera with you. They work pretty well under the water and I figure that if you are going to be in the cage you are certainly going to need it.

Hope the above helps

Very proudly part of the wonderful nation of South Africa
