Tanzania in March?
Thinking of planning a safari for March in Tanzania. I've heard conflicting info about game viewing this time of year- thoughts?
we will be traveling with tweens. Any recommendations on agents to work with for a private safari? Thanks!

Why Safari between January and March?
I dont think March is worse, in fact its one of the best seasons for you guys to visit especially at the Serengeti national park. Why Early 2019 is the best ?
Escape the Crowds !, The northern parks in Tanzania are considered Africa's ultimate safari destinations (traditionally), which means that tourist traffic is high. By travelling in the a typical months you can avoid getting stuck in a game viewing traffic jam and having to compete for space at wildlife sightings.Travelling in the less-crowded rainy season makes for a more genuine experience - one that allows you to connect more personally with the wild places and local people of Tanzania
The baby animals !, Approximately 500,000 wildebeest calves are born in a 2 to 3 weeks period between January and March in the Serengeti. But that’s not the only reason you should see Tanzania during calving season. From lion cubs to elephant calves to antelopes, zebras and more, this is the time to see lots of baby animals. It’s also a favorite among professional photographers. The rainy seasons offer outstanding surroundings for photography in the parks, which come alive with the rains.
Lots of predator’s activity!, Commotion from calving season pulls big cats to the herds, presenting some of the best opportunities to see chases.
The green season !, This is when the scenery in Tanzania is lush and beautiful – great for escaping winter weather.
On operators there are plenty of them in Kilimanjaro and arusha region, Combined there can be more than 1500 companies. My advice take local owned one they will make your trip more genuine and worthwhile.

mad, you might want to solicit a bit more feedback. March can be a tough time to go weather-wise. "Green season" is green for a reason, that being rain. That's the start of rainy season (they call it the "long rains") for a lot of Eastern Africa and it can be enough that many camps close up. Animals generally don't like the rain, so you may find if you go that the volume of sightings is not that great.

I've been to Tanzania in mid-February, and it was very warm and dry. It's also the birthing season around the Serengeti in Ndutu as well the migration being in the area, so if you can back up your plans a month, that might be a better idea.
I booked with Access2Tanzania out of Minnesota (but they own the company and vehicles as well as employ their own guides in Tanzania) and I was very happy with them. My trip report from 2013 is here

Thanks for the info amyb. I ended up going with the Wild Source, based on reviews on this forum. We're going early March and I think we'll be ok. It sounds like it may rain a bit each day, but hopefully unlikely we'll have all day rains at that point. Fingers crossed!
