Tarangire
We have Tarangire park on our Tanzania itinerary for February.
Can anyone recommend if one night is enough with just an afternoon game drive.
Or should we stay 2 nights.
Also, I would like recommendations for accomodations in the park.
Thanks very much,
Molly

My wife and I stayed in Tarangire for three nights as I recall, also in February a number of years ago. Our opinion is even that was not enough, but we prefer not to move around frequently.
We stayed in the Tarangire River Camp, which we totally loved. This was our first ever African lodge, so we were completely blown away and excited by everything. We later stayed in fancier places (as well as tents) but that was the perfect mix of comfort and rustic that we enjoy.
We continued on safari for 2 1/2 weeks (Manyara, Ngorongoro, Serengeti), but our time in Tarangire remained a highlight.

What you can do on day arriving Tarangire is have the afternoon game drive, overnight. Next day, and depending on where the next stop would be, i.e., if Manyara or Ngorongoro... you can do the morning game drive with boxed lunch and then by about 2pm drive onto to next stop.
It's a 2/hr drive to Manyara*; 3-3.5/hrs to Ngorongoro in time for overnight.
*If here you may have time for an afternoonn game drive before heading to your lodge/camp for dinner/overnight. If to Ngo, just enough time to get there, check thru the gate and to your lodging for overnight; next morning you can do the crater tour.
As the park fee is for 24/hrs from time of arrival, you can enjoy 2 game drives and yet only 1/nt in the park at lodge or camp.
The above is a perfect way of enjoying the park even if only 1/nt.

Tarangire is a great park, stay 2 nights if you have the time.
I have visited twice and both times stayed at Tarangire Safari Lodge http://www.tarangiresafarilodge.com/ which is built on a ridge from where there is a spectacular view over the park.
My phtos from the 2005 trip are here, there are 2 photos taken from the lodge looking over the park https://picasaweb.google.com/Treepol/Tarangire2005#
Happy planning,
Pol

I would highly recommend you stay 2 nights if possible. I don't think you'd find one afternoon in the park enough. I've stayed at the Tarangire River Camp, Maramboi and Lake Burunge. However none of these is inside the park. The River Camp is just outside the park boundary. As with Nelson (above), this was our first ever stay in an African camp and we have great memories of it for that. A few years later, we stayed there again and were a bit disappointed in it, partly because the original lounge area which was very unique, had been washed into the river below! As a stop for first safari-goers, it's a great choice.
Maramboi is a fabulous camp, and a very quick drive to the main park gate.
Note that some Tarangire camps are deep enough into the park that they are a consideration if you have a long drive ahead of you to get to your next destination after Tarangire; you don't want to add another hour or more getting out of the park before facing a long drive.
