For me, at least, five days in Hluhluwe-Umfolozi would have been a bit long, but I did not do one of the overnight walking safaris, which received nice reviews and visited quieter areas of the park. I have also visited Kruger, and I thought Kruger had more game (both in numbers and diversity), and a lot more predators (I saw several lion and leopard, in Kruger, but only one lion in Hluhluwe). But, rhinos are easier to find in Hluhluwe (in fact, white rhinos seem to be everywhere -- finding black rhinos takes more effort). If you have five days at Hluhluwe, it may be worth visiting the St. Lucia estuary for one morning -- lots of hippos and crocodiles.

I have done the 5 day/4 night walking trip in Umfolozi. Its incredible, but basic if thats OK with you. Didnt see any cats, but spent 30 minutes caught between 2 groups of white rhino, both 100-150 yds away.

Thanks Thit Cho for this link, it was a very useful and informative read for me. How long was your driving time from St Lucia to Durban airport? I would much prefer to drive to Durban and take an immediate flight out to CT without having to stay overnight in Durban if feasible.
