i didn't mean to offend in any way.
you have defined it accurately from your experience's point of view.
Comparing the other alternatives, i thought Sandi's comment was closer to the actual chances of seeing elephants in the different parks ...
I still think that for elephant observations Amboseli & Samburu have better chances, numbers & even closeness...
peace

PS
i do use my own experience but not only.
I guess i've been to Maasai Mara about 80-100 times, which can create an impression. furthermore on every safarii meet several guides i know & we discuss sightings; some of my personal friends guide safaris & it's a favoutite chatting topic, so things do accumulate

Since Divewop divulged the origins of her name on this thread, may I also ask you what your background is that has taken you to the Mara 100 times? Are you a guide? I think getting some guide opinions on here would be beneficial. If you prefer not to answer, I understand completely. I have not directly stated my profession or background here. And if you've previously told us what you do, I apologize for forgetting.
Shothyme77 Reiterating that I've never been to Tsavo or Finch Hattons, I think you would get good hippo action at the Manyara hippo pool. It would definitely not be as private as enjoying the hippos from your own tent at Finch Hattens. But Manyara is noted for its active hippo pool where I saw lots of hippos and hippos out of the water. One of my favorite hippo photos is of one hippo biting the butt of another on the banks of the Manyara hippo pool. If you spent 2 nights at Manyara with your own guide, you could sit for hours at the hippo pool. I recall we could also get out of the vehicle there. Of course there would be other people and vehicles hippo watching as well.
If Finch Hattens were on the way to your other destinations, I would not encourage dropping it. It just seems out of the way for what you are seeking and for a 2-night time frame. I'd also investigate the cost of including it.
Wherever you choose, you'll have great photos and tales to tell and you'll be happy with the decision. Plus you will be able to help others who will be facing the same decision you are facing now.
