ATA?

Anyone ever flown ATA? I am planning a trip to Hawaii from Phoenix, and my travel agent recommended them as a "good, inexpensive" alternative. The flight is Phoenix to Honolulu, with Aloha over to Maui. ATA ticket is ~$600, United is $1000+

My experience with ATA was so-so. They WERE much cheaper to Hawaii than other carriers and the flights were all on time. An accomplishment in itself these days! Be aware, however, that the seating is even more crampled than usual and the flight attendants were less than cordial. If you can tolerate tight seating and take plenty of bottled water and a light snack...the $$ savings are probably worth it.

We flew ATA to Maui a couple of years ago, with a stopover in Honolulu. Had to actually leave the plane for an hour or so on the return trip. We thought it was a real "cattle car" but the fare was reasonable and it was only a 5 hour trip for us from SFO. I would do it again for the price, in spite of the less than "luxurious" conditions. I have flown it several times cross country. Did not have good experience with fellow travellers. Too many crying babies and lots of B-O.

We flew ATA from JFK to Istanbul when Renaissance Cruises used them as charter. Food wasn't as good as "regular" airline (as if that's possible) and the seats were more cramped. (ditto) However, for the $ savings we endured. I would think twice about doing it again but wouldn't rule it out.
